Camaro Gets 17th Victory in Photo Finish | CamaroStoreOnline.com Race Recap

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. secured Camaro’s 17th win of the season in a dramatic YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, edging out the field by just .006 seconds in one of the closest finishes of the year. The victory, Stenhouse's first of 2024, puts Camaro within one win of clinching 50% of this year’s 36-race season, further solidifying their dominance.

Stenhouse Avoids "The Big One" for Victory

Known for his late-race surges at superspeedway events, Stenhouse made his way to the front in the final laps and narrowly avoided being taken out during NASCAR’s largest-ever crash—a 28-car pileup famously referred to as "The Big One." Stenhouse was clipped in the chaos while battling for the lead, but managed to recover and keep his car in contention, surging ahead to grab his first win of the season.

Playoff Camaros: Byron and Larson Lead the Charge

While Stenhouse celebrated his win, Camaro’s Playoff contenders were focused on keeping their championship hopes alive:

  • William Byron continued his strong Playoff performance, finishing 3rd and maintaining his points lead.
  • Kyle Larson secured 4th place, a notable result at a track where he has historically struggled.
  • Alex Bowman was swept up in the massive late-race crash but fought back to finish 16th.
  • Chase Elliott wasn't as fortunate, ending his day in 29th after getting caught in the same wreck.
  • Daniel Suarez faced early trouble and finished 26th after being involved in a separate incident.

With one race remaining in the Round of 12, Byron holds the points lead, while Larson is comfortably 52 points above the cut line. Bowman has a 26-point cushion, but Elliott is just 13 points above and in need of a strong performance this weekend. Suarez sits 20 points below the cut line, needing a big finish, possibly a win, to keep his Championship hopes alive.
