What This Is

Custom-sewn leather covers that you staple onto your existing 1997-2002 Camaro lower door inserts, replacing the factory carpet. They do not include the inserts.

Installation

Difficulty: Moderate  |  Tools: flathead and Phillips screwdrivers, panel clip tool or needle-nose pliers, staple gun, hot glue gun

You'll remove each door panel, pop out the carpeted insert, staple the new cover onto its cardboard backer, and reinstall.

Step 1. Remove the screws holding the door panel to the door. Some are hard to see, so check the photo closely.

Step 2. Remove this screw.

Step 3. Remove this screw.

Step 4. Remove the screw at the window switch panel, lift the switch panel out, and unplug its connectors, including the small door light.

Step 5. Use needle-nose pliers or a panel clip tool to remove the plastic fastener near the bottom front edge of the door, close to the speaker cover.

Step 6. Pull up firmly on the door handle while popping the panel clips outward. Push up and out with both hands so nothing catches.

Step 7. The panel unhooks from the window ledge as it lifts.

Step 8. The door panel is off.

Step 9. Flip the panel over and peel back the glued-on insulation until you can reach the cardboard insert.

Step 10. Carefully pry back the clips holding the insert. A small flathead or knife helps.

Step 11. With the insert out, peel the factory carpet off the cardboard. It's held with glue.

Step 12. Line the new cover up on the cardboard.

Step 13. Staple it down close to the inside edge, pulling it tight as you go.

Step 14. Press the insert back into the clips on the door panel.

Step 15. Re-glue the insulation (a hot glue gun works well), let it dry, and reinstall the door panel by reversing the removal steps.

Leather care: apply a leather conditioner with UV protection every 4-6 weeks to keep it from drying out and cracking.
