Photos may show a different vehicle; the process is the same.

Step 1. Remove the handle from the car. If there's an old cover on it, cut it off along the seams with a hobby knife.

Step 2. Test-fit the cover so you know exactly how it lines up on every side of the handle.

Step 3. Apply adhesive along the top edges and a little on the front of the handle (and on the matching areas of the leather if your adhesive calls for it).

Step 4. Let the adhesive tack up, then lay the cover on starting at the top and front. Line the top seams up with the handle edges and the front corners with the tip, then press firmly and hold.

Step 5. Glue the sides and bottom the same way. Pulling the bottom edges together takes some force. The small triangle at the front won't line up perfectly, and it isn't visible once installed.

Step 6. Thread the needle, knot the end, and lace both seams tight. Joining every second stitch is enough to hold.

Step 7. At the front, lace each stitch to the tip, tie a tight knot, and trim, leaving a short tail. Briefly melt the knot with a lighter so it can't loosen, without scorching the leather.

Step 8. Repeat on the short seam on the other side.

Step 9. Cut the opening for the release button. Start with a small slit, then trim close to the edge. Scissors are slower but safer than a knife. Cut small and enlarge as needed.

Step 10. Glue the leather around the opening and press until it bonds.

Step 11. Reinstall the handle.

Handle won't come off? Loosely lace the cover first and slide it over the handle (you can pull the top of the e-brake boot down; it's held by an elastic band). Then tighten each loop from the bottom up, like lacing a shoe. A small mirror helps.

Leather care: apply a leather conditioner with UV protection every 4-6 weeks to keep it from drying out and cracking.
