Installation

The center console has to come out to install this boot. You'll remove it, swap the boot onto the retaining tabs, and reinstall.

Step 1. Unscrew the shift knob counterclockwise, then push the shift boot ring forward and lift it out with the boot.

Step 2. Remove the top console piece behind the cup holder: open the console lid, push the piece forward, and lift. Disconnect the traction control wires, ashtray light, and console pocket light.

Step 3. Remove the console: two 10mm bolts at the front sides, two 10mm bolts in the bottom of the main compartment, one 10mm bolt under the ashtray, and two small screws under the coin holder. Pull the e-brake handle all the way back, lift the rear of the console, and unplug the lighter and power outlet connectors.
Step 4. Turn the console over to find the e-brake boot. Remove the metal retaining strip on one side (cut it, or bend it back and forth until it breaks), then gently pull the rubber boot off the retaining tabs.

Step 5. Set the new boot in place and mark where the retaining tabs go. Check the look before cutting, then cut narrow slots (about 1/16") for the tabs.

Step 6. Reinstall the rubber boot over the leather boot to hold it in place (hot glue also works). Short pieces of the old metal strip work as clips where tabs are worn.

Step 7. Reinstall the console, working the e-brake handle through the new boot as you lower it. Make sure seat belts and wires aren't trapped before fastening anything.
Step 8. Reinstall the shift boot and shift knob.
Leather care: apply a leather conditioner with UV protection every 4-6 weeks to keep it from drying out and cracking.
