Fan Friday: John Quinlan's Love Affair | CamaroStoreOnline.com

Welcome back to another installment of Fan Friday at CamaroStoreOnline.comJohn Quinlan's love affair with the Camaro began in 1970 when, at the age of 24, he purchased a brand-new Z28. Fast forward to 2017, when he set his eyes on the ZL1 with the LT4 supercharged engine, he knew he had to own one. Unfortunately, the only Chevy dealer in his town was too small to secure an allocation from GM. Despite the odds, his dealer submitted an order anyway, just in case.

Five months later, on his 73rd birthday, John received an unexpected call from the dealer: his ZL1 Camaro was ready for pickup. Excited, he arrived at the dealership within five minutes. The first photo shows this prized car. Although the 1LE package wasn't available until later in 2017, John managed to get the new 10-speed automatic.

In early 2023, rumors circulated that 2024 would be the final year for gasoline Camaros, and GM was considering Collector's Editions. John was determined to own one. However, he learned that only 350 ZL1 Collector's Editions would be produced, with 50 allocated to other countries. Realizing his local dealer wouldn't secure an allocation, he began contacting other Chevy dealers in Oklahoma. One dealer in Tulsa offered to put him on a list, although there were two others ahead of him.

On June 1st, John received a call from the Tulsa dealer, informing him they had received an allocation for one ZL1 Collector's Edition. The dealer gave the other two parties 24 hours to respond, but neither did. John was at the dealership the same day, filling out the order form and paying only the MSRP. He took delivery in mid-October. This time, he opted for the Tremec 6-speed transmission, complementing his collection with both an automatic and a stick shift. His 2024 ZL1 is numbered 151 of the 350 produced. You can see the magnetic bumper sticker and license plate he had made to honor the original code name, Panther, for the 1967 Camaro project.

At 80 years old, John now faces the challenge of dividing his two beloved Camaros among his three sons. He's confident they'll figure it out. John is grateful for the opportunity to share his enduring Camaro story.
